Welcome to Room Two!

In line with Te Whariki, the New Zealand Early Childhood Curriculum, we have the following aspirations for your children.

To grow up as competent and confident learners and communicators, healthy in mind, body and spirit, secure in their sense of belonging and in the knowledge that they make a valued contribution to society.

We believe children learn best in an environment that is positive and caring. We will aim to ensure Room Two is a room in which children love to come and play, and as a result, learn.

Learning happens best when children are interested and excited by what they are doing. Children will be intrinsically motivated while they learn. This means children will have lots of choice about what they want to play/work with and do and how they go about it. Resources will be out and readily available for children to access throughout the day.

Play is held in high regard by the teachers , and we realise that play is in fact the children’s representation of learning. Play is how children learn, how they develop the foundations of numeracy and literacy, and how they develop control over their gross motor and fine motor skills. Play is how they begin to learn the cultural and social customs of New Zealand.

In Room Two your child will experience an environment that values learning in all curriculum areas through experiencing fun and challenges, many open ended activities and lots of opportunities for self and guided discovery.

Teachers will encourage children to give things a go and not be afraid of making mistakes. They will be available to stimulate conversation and extend children’s interests, stretch their thinking and provide exposure to a large range of vocabulary.

Friendships and relationships are valued and respect for self, others and environment runs through all aspects of daily activities.

Numeracy and literacy is promoted through real life experiences that are meaningful and relevant to the child. Children develop literacy skills by being immersed in a language rich environment and will have many opportunities to explore and develop their interest in text as their interest grows. Teachers will be available to support children on an individual bases, guided by each child’s developmental needs.

It is vital to us that a child’s love for learning is cherished. When learning is relevant to your child, when the teachers are enthusiastic and ‘tuned in’ it will go a long way to ensuring a life long love for learning and a desire to continue to refine and utilize literacy and numeracy effectively.

We want to ensure we provide your children with strong foundations that will prepare them not only for school, but more importantly, for life.
